(An old man, who once supported the Mean Party, is interviewed.) Sir, my generation cannot understand how your generation could have let such a mean regime gain power. Why did you support them? Well, firstly, we all misunderstood their name. We thought they were moderate. But beyond that, we were starving and desperate, and they promised work and bread. But you were only a child then. Yes. But my father was a baker. And when they abolished recess, you still supported them? I was young and impressionable. And when they vandalized street signs, you still supported them? It gave us purpose. And even when their commandos ended up marching from yard to yard, tramping on all the flowerbeds, you didn't detect their evil? The bread from this time was far superior to the breads of today. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and squishy on the inside. You could get a really good bite out of it. And it always smelled fresh from the oven. Your generation only knows about factory bread. They slice it too thin and you can't even make a tunafish sandwich without the fish juice leaking through onto your fingers as you try to eat it. You couldn't possibly understand. |
